FE1 was based on Chopin's autograph and was corrected in details by the composer. The proofreading included completing minor inaccuracies, e.g., staccato dots in bars 81-82, 85-87 and 89-90, slurs in bars 33-34 and analog., or accidentals in bar 14 and 32. Apart from this kind of changes of an ordering character, out of which a part could have been attributed to a revision, Chopin introduced numerous changes and improvements, influencing the sound and phrasing in a more significant way, e.g.:
- he added the pedalling on the 3rd beat of bar 9 and all its repetitions;
- he added slurs in the 1st halves of bar 29 and 31;
- he deleted the bottom elements in the chords at the transition between bars 13-14;
- he changed entirely the articulation and slurring in bars 69-99.
FE1 is not free from errors, which were not detected at the time of Chopin proofreading, e.g., an overlooked staccato dot in bar 11, misinterpretation of such a dot as a note in bar 21, superfluous note in bar 70 or an overlooked tie of g in bar 137. In bar 153 mistakes were committed at the time of implementing Chopin proofreading.
A part of the mistakes present in FE1 results from an inaccurate reproduction of the text, which in A was written in an abbreviated manner with the help of empty, numerated bars. One can mention here no pedalling in bars 49-50.
