GE3 - Third German edition
Publisher: | Fr. Kistner |
Date: | circa 1850 |
Title: | Douze Grandes Etudes || No. 4 |
Dedication: | SON AMI F. LISZT |
Third German edition in which a few revisions of the text of GE2 were performed: a cautionary was added at the beginning of bar 24, the fingering in bar 33 was completed, the dynamic hairpins in bar 39 were extended, the mark in bar 79 was moved. Separating the slurs in bar 23-24 could have been a deliberate change or mistake.
GE3 also includes common errors, e.g.: a quaver flag was added to the crotchet ending bar 18, d3 was printed instead of e3 at the end of bar 45, the returning e2 in bar 76 was overlooked.
There are copies of GE3 differing in the cover details. The presented copy comes from the latest known reprint, ca. 1860. The numerous pencilled annotations visible in it are of no source value.
