Title: | Ballada op. 38 |
The edition was provided with a collective page title of the series Wessel & Co.'s Complete Collection of the Compositions of Frederic Chopin for the Piano Forte, No. 41 (the number was written by hand). Apart from the above title and full annotation concerning the editor, on the page there is a list of the previously published Chopin's compositions, marked with numbers 1-45, including pieces up to Op. 42. The Ballade appears there under the title: La Gracieuse Op. 38.
The copy of the title page shows the title on the first page of the music text.
EE was created on the basis of A, after the manuscript had been used in the French edition. Although both editions have the same base text, the differences between them are significant, both in terms of engraving and notes. EE includes numerous inaccuracies in the slurring – in some of the fragments the slurs are completely overlooked (e.g. bars 47-50), in other fragments they differ significantly from the composer's intention (e.g. combining the slurs in bars 6, 10). EE also has many overlooked (bars 170, 191) and erroneous notes(bars 36, 56), accidentals (bars 72-78), or accents (bars 99, 106).
