Issues : Errors in FE

b. 100

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

..

In FE1,  the 2nd crotchet in the bottom R.H. voice is printed on the level of c1 but because it has no ledger line it looks like d1. The omitted line was already added in FE2.

Slurs in A

Slur in GC (→GE) & FE

Slurs in EE

..

The bottom arms of the   hairpins written in A look like combined slurs, which misled both the copyist and the engraver of FE. The version of EE also results from a misunderstanding of the notation of A, although in this case it was rather the deletion of the abandoned version of bar 102 that contributed to the misunderstanding.

No sign in FE

..

The lack of a  hairpin is most probably an oversight by the engraver of FE.

b. 106

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

..

Due to an oversight, in FE1 there is no upper part of the L.H. in the 2nd half of bar 106. The part was completed in FE2, yet without the  lowering e1 to e1, which was added only in FE3.

b. 108

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

..

FE1 has an erroneous  before the bottom note of the first R.H. chord. The mistake was most certainly induced by the notation of A – a  before that note resembles a  owing to its faintly written lower part. The error was corrected in FE2 (→FE3).
