Issues : Errors in FE

b. 14

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

c1 in A (→EE,GCGE) & FE2 (→FE3)

d1 in FE1

..

The d1 note instead of c1 as the bottom component of the chord on the 2nd beat in the R.H. is certainly an error of FE1. Chopin corrected it in FE2 (→FE3).

b. 16

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

b. 31

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

..

FE1 has an erroneous B instead of as the bottom note of the first crotchet in the L.H. This might have resulted from a slightly too low position of that note in A. The error was corrected in a proofreading of FE2 (→FE3).

b. 40-41

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

No sign in FE

 in EE

..

Both the omission of the  sign in FE and its slight extension in GC (→GE) are undoubtedly of an accidental nature. However, the shorter hairpins in EE may be a result of the interpretation of the notation of A – Chopin would extend the initially written long accent and the result of these corrections is not entirely clear, as a part of the sign in bar 41 has the form of a single horizontal line.

b. 48

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

..

In A (→GC,FE1FE2) there are no accidentals before the upper notes of the last two sixths, g2 and b2. It is a typical inaccuracy of notation of Chopin, which does not result in any doubts in this context. Moreover, FE1 (→FE2) has no  raising b1 to b1. In FE3 both necessary naturals were added, the same notation also occurs in EE. Only GE has the correct text in this bar.
