Slurs

b. 42-43

composition: Op. 10 No 12, Etude in C minor

Slur in A, interpretation

Tie in FE (→EE)

No sign in GE

..

In A the slur running from the g1-g2 octave is written only in bar 42 (at the end of the text's line). This inaccuracy probably caused its misinterpretation in FE (→EE) as a tie sustaining g2. In GE the slur was omitted, which, among others, may be a simple oversight.

b. 45-46

composition: Op. 10 No 12, Etude in C minor

Slurs in A

L.H. slur in FE (→GE)

Slurs in EE

..

In the main text we give the slurs in the parts of both hands, as Chopin wrote it in A; such slurs are included in EE. We consider the fact that in A the slur in the L.H. begins two notes later than the slur in the R.H. as the notation's inaccuracy. In FE (→GE) the range of the slur in the L.H. is correct, yet the slur in the R.H. was omitted.

b. 49-50

composition: Op. 10 No 12, Etude in C minor

..

We give the slurring of the figures in the L.H. in a unified version, despite the fact that some of the slurs are written slightly inaccurately.

b. 50

composition: Op. 10 No 12, Etude in C minor

Slur in A (→FEEE,GE1GE2)

Slur in GE3 (→GE4)

..

In this and further, analogous bars Chopin provided the part of the R.H. only with the slurs embracing particular triplets (cf. General Editorial Principlesp. 16). As in FE the slurs were replaced with phrase marks in a few places (bars 52, 56 and 60), we also introduce a relevant change here. The slur was already extended in GE3 (→GE4).

b. 51-68

composition: Op. 10 No 12, Etude in C minor

..

In bars 51-56 and 59-68 we give the slurring in the L.H. in the standardised version, despite the fact that some of the slurs are written slightly inaccurately.
