Verbal indications
b. 38-39
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor
..
The term cresc. is written in A between the 3rd beat of bar 38 and the 1st beat of bar 39. In GE (→FE→EE) it was placed at the end of bar 38. Because of the division into lines and the concern for the legibility of the text, we place it in bar 39. Cf. bars 47, 101 and 109. In EE the word was broken into syllables; although Chopin sometimes wrote it that way, in this instance it is the editor's adjustment. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions |

In our opinion, the second marking that can be seen between the staves in GE (→FE→EE) is either the engraver's mistake or an addition resulting from proofing. Cf. bars 19 and 105. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions |

We give the agogic indication as contained in A, we also reproduce the text layout in relation to the notes. GE has a stretto instead of e stretto, which changes the sense of this indication to a certain degree; also, it is placed earlier, at the beginning of bar 45. In FE (→EE) the error of GE was corrected and the inscription moved back to its original place as in A. This is probably Chopin's correction. In EE and GE2, greater care was taken to ensure a more uniform arrangement of particular words in relation to the musical text. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |

The indication is written in A in bar 50, but after the chord on the 3rd beat of the bar. In this way Chopin probably wanted to avoid the superimposing of on the notes. In GE1 (→FE→EE) the indication appears at the beginning of bar 51. The interpretation of the manuscript adopted in GE2 (→GE3) is consistent with ours, with the addition of an accent under the octave f2-f3. category imprint: Differences between sources |
