b. 65-87

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

 in A

 in GE (→FEEE)

..

In A, the asterisks  in bars 65-66, 70-71, 73-74, 76, 79, 81-82  and 86-87 are placed at the end of the bar after the 3rd crotchet of the L.H. In GE (→FEEE) they were printed earlier, under the 3rd crotchet.

A wedge in A

No sign in GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2)

A dot in GE3

..

A wedge over a flat visible in A was omitted in GE1 (→FEEE, → GE2). In GE3 the staccato sign was supplemented in the form of a dot under the note

b. 67

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

No sign in A (→GE1FEEE)

A staccato dot in GE2 (→GE3)

..

In A (→GE1FEEE) there is no staccato dot under the bass note A flat. We supplement that dot, as we see no reason for the note to be performed with a different articulation than the four preceding ones and the subsequent ones, marked with dots in A. The dots were added in GE2 (→GE3).

An alternative suggested by the editors

..

In our main text we give the  at the end of the bar, after the 3rd crotchet, which is in compliance with the notation of A. However, we cannot rule out the possibility that the placement of the asterisk slightly earlier, under the 3rd crotchet, in GE (→FEEE) may in this case reflect Chopin's intention, as he applied precisely the same notation in the analogous bar 83.

A staccato dot in A

No dot in GE (→FEEE)

..

It is not certain whether an ink trace visible under D flat is a staccato dot or a mark that remains after incomplete removal of a sign (accent?). Unmistakable dots in analogous bars 64 and 84 weigh in favour of staccato. In GE (→FEEE) there is no dot here.
