Slurs
b. 166-167
|
composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV
..
In A, at the end of bar 166, the last one in the line, the slur in the R.H. top voice is missing. However, at the beginning of bar 167 we can see the ending of a slur from the preceding bar. We assume that we are dealing with a slur whose range is analogous to the one in bars 170-171. In GE (→FE,EE,IE) this slur was not included. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , Errors in GE , Uncertain slur continuation |

As was the case 4 bars earlier, the shorter top slur in GE (→IE) is probably a revision, while the omission thereof – mistakes by FE and EE. On the other hand, such a double oversight in unrelated sources seems highly unlikely. Therefore, it is possible that the slur was added to GE1 after the remaining editions had been prepared (see bar 225), while its presence in IE resulted from an independent revision, introduced by analogy with bars 164-165. The omission of the d2-e2 slur in bars 169-170 in all editions is almost certainly an oversight – in A the slur is poorly visible. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Errors in EE , Errors in GE , GE revisions , Errors in IE |

The A slur clearly reaches the e1 crotchet at the beginning of bar 172. In GE (→EE) the notation is inaccurate – the slur in bar 171, at the end of a line, suggests that it should be continued, yet in a new line, in bar 172, there is no ending thereof. We reproduce it – in accordance with FE and IE – as a slur reaching just d1. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Uncertain slur continuation , Errors repeated in EE |
