In the main text we provide the A version. In GE (→FE,EE,IE) it was arbitrarily changed to a version analogous to bar 312. Taking into account the fact that this bar was most probably created later than the discussed one, it cannot be ruled out that Chopin would have introduced the later version also here if he had continued working on the Sonata. Therefore, according to us, it is justified to use it here as an acceptable variant.

The notation of the 1st crotchet in A is ambiguous – it is uncertain whether the top note (g2) is supposed to be provided with a separate stem pointing upwards, as it was interpreted in GE (→FE,EE,IE), or whether this "stem" is actually a wedge over the sixth in one-part writing. To the main text we adopt the latter, yet the version of the editions can be considered an equal variant.

In A each L.H. note on a ledger line – E, C, E, F1 – is provided with a "tail", which, in a relevant context, could be considered an additional crotchet stem pointing downwards. It would make sense in the case of E and F1, but C and E prove that it is simply a writing manner.

The version of the editions (with rests) can be considered an equal variant, since Chopin himself used this version in analogous bars 355-357. In the main text we keep the A notation, as, formally speaking, both versions are inaccurate, and the performance – synchronisation with the R.H. part – is determined by the way the notes are arranged. This is a record of "harmonic legato" – holding one's fingers on the keys in order to achieve actual chords within a linear sequence.
