b. 259

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In the R.H. part in A and FE1 there is only one , to the 3rd quaver. The remaining two necessary accidentals were added in GE and FE2 (→EE).

b. 260-261

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

in A (→GE) & EE2

No sign in FE (→EE1)

..

The  hairpin was probably added to A after [FC] had been finished, which explains its absence in FE (→EE1). In EE2 the mark was added after GE1.

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Slurs in A (→GE) & EE2

No slurs in FE (→EE1)

..

The absence of slurs in FE (→EE1) probably means that Chopin added them to A after [FC] had been finished. In EE2 the slurs were added after GE1.

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Long accent in A (→GE)

, our alternative suggestion

 & , our complementing suggestion

..

Noteworthy is the similarity, despite the inaccurate reproduction of the accent, of versions of A and FE – cf. the other three analogous places where these sources differ significantly (bars 94, 98 and 265). This may mean, among other things, that this place was accidentally omitted in Chopin’s additions or corrections to the markings in [FC] or the proofs of FE1. Taking account of this possibility, we propose – as an alternative or supplement to the main text, based on the version of A – a  hairpin modelled on the indications of FE in three previous analogous places – see bars 93-97.
