b. 250

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In A and FE there is no accidental to the bottom note of the 7th quaver. One pedal for the entire 2nd half of the bar proves that Chopin heard here one chord, with g. The overlooked  was added in GE and EE.

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

f1 in A (→GE)

d1 in FE (→EE)

..

In FE (→EE) the version of the bottom note of the 3rd quaver most probably resulted from Chopin's proofreading, which is indicated by the traces of corrections performed in print here. However, it is difficult to say what was being corrected, hence we cannot say that Chopin replaced the A sixth with the FE octave. Both versions are musically justified, both in terms of sound and voice leading, hence they can be considered equal variants. In the main text we give the version of the principal source, A.

b. 251

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In A and FE1 there is no  to the bottom note of the 7th quaver (g). If Chopin had wanted a g here, he would have certainly marked it with a natural. The mistake was corrected in FE2 (→EE) and GE.

L.H.  in A

No signs in FE (→EE) & GE

..

The additional  for the L.H. was most probably added – as many other dynamic marks – to A after [FC] had been finished. This would explain its absence in FE (→EE), yet it remains uncertain whether in GE it was overlooked or considered superfluous in the face of similar marks between the staves.

b. 252

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

in A (→GE) & EE2

No indication in FE (→EE1)

..

The missing  in FE (→EE1) most probably means that Chopin added it to A after the basis for FE had been finished, that is [FC]. However, in the case of a single mark, an oversight cannot be ruled out either. In EE2 the mark was certainly added after comparing it with GE1.
