b. 22

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

    in A (→GE)

No markings in FE (→EE1)

    in EE2

..

The missing pedal change on the 3rd beat must be a mistake by the reviser or the engraver of EE2.

b. 22-36

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In A in bars 21-36 Chopin carefully provided all L.H. crotchets with staccato dots (except the last two ones in bar 36). GE reproduced these marks with one mistake – the dot for the 1st crotchet in bar 22 was overlooked. By contrast, FE and EE are much more deficient; there is no doubt that the oversights occurred for extra-musical reasons. Below is a list of the overlooked dots in particular editions (bar number/beat):

  • in FE 22/1, 23/2, 24/1, 25/2, 25/4, entire bar 30, 32/1 and 35/4;
  • EE1 repeated the FE version, adding a dot in 25/2; however, the following dots were additionally overlooked: 24/4, 31/2, 31/4, 32/4, 33/1, 35/4, 36/1;
  • in EE2 the EE1 version was supplemented with a dot in 33/1; the dots in 26/4 and 34/4 were additionally overlooked.

b. 24

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

In FCs on the 2nd beat there is an F1-F octave in the L.H., with an 8 below. In FCs the shortcut notation of octaves with the use of 8 can be seen a few times; however, in this place it having been used along with a written-out octave must be a mistake by Fontana or by Chopin himself.

b. 25

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

..

In FE (→EE1) the R.H. bottom voice rests were overlooked on the 1st and 3rd beats. The rests were added by EE2, perhaps under the influence of GE1. The oversights could have been related to the notation of the chord on the 2nd beat, which is written with the use of one-part writing in the editions.
