b. 25

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Due to the cumbersome notation of the R.H. chord on the 2nd beat in A, the chord was erroneously recreated in the editions. Chopin wrote the f-d1 sixth as a bottom voice crotchet but with the stem pointing upwards so that its ending almost merges with the top voice f1 note. Consequently, in the majority of the editions the entire chord is written on one stem, which changed the rhythmic value of the sixth from a crotchet to a quaver. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in A |

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

The unquestionable A slurs were recreated inaccurately both in GE and FE (→EE). In the case of FE, the shift of the slur's division point was probably influenced by the layout – in this edition bar 26 opens a new page. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Inaccuracies in FE |

In the main text we include the undoubtedly Chopinesque change of the L.H. chord on the 4th beat of bars 26 and 34, introduced at the stage of proofreading FE1. In EE2 both chords were restored to their initial versions, most probably after comparing it with GE1. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations |

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

In A bar 27 opens a new line, which resulted in vague slurs – the slur at the end of bar 26 is ambiguous (it may suggest continuation), while the slur at the beginning of bar 27 starts from the 1st note. However, in an analogous situation in bars 34-35 the slur at the end of line (in bar 34) clearly indicates that it should be continued. Due to the above, in the main text we accept the interpretation of the discussed place adopted by GE (continuous slur). Taking into account the earlier division of the slur at the beginning of bar 26, we consider the FE (→EE) version with divided slurs to be less convincing, musically speaking. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources |
