b. 48

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

The inaccuracy of notation in A stems from the later addition of the 1st small note g1 by Chopin. The version of EE may be an authentic, alternative correction of the version matching the original notation of A (cf. similar shape of melody in Nocturne in B minor Op. 9 No. 1, bars 3 and 73).

In the chord there is no natural next to b in FE. The error was corrected in all pupils' copies.

In this context the long accent seems to be more plausible in terms of interpreting the sign in A. In GE there is a short accent (same as in the entire Impromptu), while in FE and EE the accents were omitted.

Lack of natural next to d1 is an obvious Chopin's error. The version with a (without the flat raising to a) is musically possible, yet Chopin's annotation in FES indicates rather a double error of the composer in A and FE

A, FE and EE are lacking the natural raising a2 into a2. The sign was added by Chopin in FEJ, it was also included in GE.
