b. 281

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

Slur from 2nd note in A, possible reading

Slur from 1st note in A (different reading→FCGE, →FEEE)

..

The beginning of the phrase mark in A is unclear, since it blends with the L.H. slur. However, it is most likely that the phrase mark begins more or less midway between the first two quavers. It is also in analogous b. 383 that it is uncertain from which note the phrase mark should start according to Chopin. In the main text we include the notation of the remaining sources, with a phrase mark led from the 1st note of the bar.

Chord with b1 in GE & FE (→EE)

Chord without b1 suggested by the editors

..

Like in b. 48, the chord with additional b1 present in the sources is most probably a mistake of Chopin.

b. 281

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Long accent over R.H. chord in A

Long accent under R.H. chord suggested by the editors

Short accent over R.H. chord in FE

2 short accents in GE & EE

..

As in bar 277, in the main text we put the long accent placed in A over the R.H. chord between the staves, since it must concern both hands. This issue was also specified in GE and EE by adding another accent under the L.H. part. The fact that all the editions used short accents results from the absence of a defined category of long accent being a separate mark.

b. 281-282

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Slur in b. 281 in sources

Slur to b. 282, our alternative suggestion

..

In the main text we provide the version of the sources, compliant with the slur present in A in analogous bar 114. To an alternative suggestion to the version of the sources we adopted an extension of the slur in bars 114-115, most probably coming from Chopin.

b. 281

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

In FE1 the bottom  to the 1st chord in the R.H. triplet is at the pitch of a1; moreover, there is no  to the top note of the 2nd chord in the triplet. Both mistakes were corrected in FE2.
