b. 251-267

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

No signs in EE

Staccato in GC

Staccato in FE, no sign in bar 251

Staccato in GE, only in bar 251

..

The sources differ with regard to the presence or absence of staccato dots in bars 251, 259 and 267. In our main text we apply the consistent markings of GC. The version of GE is definitely - and that of FE probably - inaccurate. The absence of the dots in  EE may be the initial version.

b. 251

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

in chord in FE0 (→FE1,FEG,EE)

b in chord in GE

..

On the 3rd crotchet GE certainly erroneously repeats the previous chord.

b. 251

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Long accents in A

 in GE

Accent &  in FE (→EE)

..

The clearly long accents of A were reproduced in GE (→FEEE) as  hairpins, whereas in FE (→EE) the first sign actually looks like a long accent and the second one was extended over the entire group of four semiquavers. The changes can be qualified as inaccurate.

composition: Op. 19, Bolero

Staccato dots in GE & EE

Our variant suggestion

..

We suggest adding staccato dots, the same as in analogous bar 137. The dots are present in GE (perhaps added by Chopin in a proofreading) and in EE (added by the reviser, most probably by comparison with bar 137).

b. 251-252

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

1 slur in A & GE2

2 slurs in GE1 (literal reading→FEEE)

..

The slur in GE1 is written ambiguously – the slur at the end of the line of the text (bar 251) suggests continuation, yet in bar 252 the slur runs from the 1st note. The notation of FE (→EE) proves that, without seeing A, the notation of GE1 was interpreted as two separate slurs.
