b. 206

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

 in A (possible interpretation) & GE2

 in A (literal interpretation→GE1FEEE)

..

The moment of beginning the  hairpin in A intended by Chopin is unclear. The sign starts clearly before the bar line of bar 206, the first one on a new page, which suggests that it began still in the previous bar; however, it does not allow to determine the precise location of the beginning of the sign. GE1 (→FEEE) considered it simply an inaccuracy, which could be right. GE2 adopted a solution similar to the one adopted to the main text – beginning of the sign after the last note in bar 205.

The  mark in bar 205, which is not followed by a  mark in the majority of the sources, may be interpreted as a general col  or  simile indication (cf. e.g. the Etude in E major, op. 10, no. 11, bars 3-4). However, according to us, an inaccuracy, caused by a combination of oversights of both Chopin and the engraver of FE (e.g. the  mark in bar 205 would have fallen in FE at the end of the line, which favours inaccuracies), is more likely in this case. The additions suggested in the main text are modelled after the authentic indications in bars 203-204. A similar addition was introduced into GE3.

The missing  in FC (→GE1) could be an oversight of the copyist, corrected in GE2 (→GE3), probably on the basis of analogy with b. 74. The missing  over the mordent must be Chopin's inaccuracy: see b. 74.
A similar situation is to be found in b. 657.

Like in b. 62, the version of EE is most probably the initial version or a mistake, corrected then in FE (→GE).

b. 206

composition: Op. 22, Polonaise

..

Like in b. 62, of which this bar is a literal repetition, there are no accidentals before the 1st, 3rd and 6th notes under the octave sign in FE (→GE1). In the main text we add respective accidentals –  of e3 of f3 and  of d3. The first two were also added in EE, while in GE2 (→GE3) – only the first one.
