The partial lack of pedal markings in FE (→EE) must have resulted from an oversight, by the engraver or the copyist, or perhaps by Chopin himself if FE were based on the second autograph. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , No pedal release mark |

The missing pedal markings at the end of b. 217 and in b. 218 in A must be Chopin's inadvertence, since it is the end of a line in A, which is conducive to oversights – after a moment of distraction, the composer resumed writing indications from a new line. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE , No pedal release mark , Inaccuracies in A |

In the main text we reproduce the coinciding slurs of A (→FE→EE). However, it seems likely that the end of the slur in b. 217 was written down inaccurately, since many slurs of A are written down with a flourish; what is more, their endings often go far beyond their intended end point. Therefore, the version of GE may be considered an equal variant. There is a similar situation upon repetition of this phrase in b. 225-226. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , GE revisions |

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

In A (→FE) there are no sharps raising f2(3) to f2(3) in b. 217 and 219. The inaccuracy, typical of Chopin, was corrected by GE and EE. Chopin wrote in A cautionary naturals to a1 in both bars and to a in b. 219; they were repeated by all editions. FE (→GE,EE) also added a to a1 in b. 217. In the main text we include all these accidentals. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions , Inaccuracies in A , Errors repeated in FE |

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

In both bars in FE0 (→FE,FEG) there is not any lowering g3(2) to g3(2). The flats in bars 217 and 220 prove Chopin's oversights, probably still in [A]. Some of the necessary signs were added in pencil by the composer in FED (both before g3) and in FEJ (at the beginning of bar 219). They were also added in GE and EE (the sign in bar 218 only in GE2 and GE3). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Errors in FE , Annotations in FED , GE revisions , Omission of current key accidentals , Annotations in FEJ |
