b. 154-155

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

..

In #KG, the tie sustaining a flat is only present in bar 155 (in a new line). This was probably the reason why GE1 did not have it at all. The error was corrected in GE2.

b. 154

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

e3-c3 in A (→EE) & FE2 (→FE3)

e2-c2 in GC (→GE) & FE1

..

As a result of misinterpretation of the octave sign, GC (→GE) and FE1 erroneously notate the first two semiquavers of the 2nd half of the bar an octave higher – e3-c3 instead of e2-c2. The error was corrected in FE2 (→FE3), most probably by Chopin.

Dot in bar 154 in GE

..

The missing staccato dots in FE (→EE) seem to be an oversight of the engraver. The second dot in GC (in bar 156) blends into the  mistake, which explains its absence in GE.

Fingering written into FES

No teaching fingering

..

The five-time use of the 1st finger, marked in FES certainly on the basis of Chopin's hint, is included by us in the main text in bars 26-30 (cf. General Editorial Principlesp. 17).
