b. 150

composition: Op. 19, Bolero

c2 in FE (→EE1)

c2 in GE & EE2 (→EE3)

..

The version of FE (→EE1) with cin the ending of the trill is most probably erroneous. It is indicated by visible traces of removal of a  before this note in FE and GE – cdoes not require any sign in this case, hence the  was most probably printed by mistake, instead of , natural in this context. In this situation, removal of this sign in FE may be considered a result of either ordering of the notation of accidentals by the reviser or of Chopin's incompletely implemented proofreading, aiming at restoring . Therefore, in the main text we give the version of GE, in which the  was replaced with a , perhaps by the composer himself. A double sharp was added also in EE2 (→EE3).

b. 150-151

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

End of slur in A (literal reading→GE1FEEE)

End of slur in A (contextual interpretation) & GE2

..

It is unclear whether the slur of A ends together with the last semiquaver in bar 150 or whether it is supposed to reach further, to the next bar. In GE1 (→FEEE) the first possibility was adopted, which was changed in GE2. We are in favour of the second interpretation, since the octave at the beginning of bar 151 is undoubtedly the end of the prior phrase. Starting the new thought from semiquavers is confirmed by  added in FED.

Fingering written into FED

No teaching fingering

..

The fingering written to FED certainly comes from Chopin.

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Fingering in EE1

Fingering in EE2 (→EE3)

..

According to us, the likelihood of the authenticity of Fontana's fingering in EE is minimal. In EE1, it clearly contains a mistake – the 3-5 sequence under the 4th and 5th semiquavers is very inconvenient. The mistake was corrected in EE2 (→EE3), changing the digit under gto a '4'. However, it seems to be more likely that Fontana projected the fingers 3-4 for these notes in order to avoid the 5th finger on the black key – the use of the regular scheme 512451... would not have required such a detailed marking; it would have been enough to repeat 51 at the beginning of the subsequent groups of semiquavers, like in bars 142-143.
