b. 118

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

A slur in A (→GE1FEEE)

No slur in GE2 (→GE3)

..

In GE2 (→GE3) the slur embracing the two quavers was removed. That revision could seem in place when the slur from bar 117 reached the second one of the two quavers. However, in our main text we retain Chopin's slurring from A.

b. 118-119

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

Tie in A (→FE,GC<wbr>→GE1)

No tie in EE

Shifted tie (slur?) in GE2 (→GE3)

..

The lack of tie to a1 is almost certainly an oversight in EE. It is unclear why the tie was moved upwards in GE2 (→GE3), obfuscating its meaning (whether it is a tie or a slur).

[] suggested by the editors

..

After the  sign in bar 117, the sources do not include a  asterisk. In the main text we suggest adding the sign after similar bar 111.
