Issues : Errors of GC

b. 91

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

c3-e3 in EE, FE & GE

a2-c3 in GC

..

GC has the third a2-c sharpin the upper voice. The fact that EE and FE consistently have a different version testifies to Gutmann's error, quite often to be found in his copies  (cf. bar 100). GE also has the correct version.

b. 93

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

At the beginning of the bar GC has a C1-E tenth. It is certainly a mistake, which is proved by, among others, the  before the bottom note, which does not make any sense before C1. All the remaining sources include an E1-E octave.

No slur in GC (→GE)

Slur in FE (→EE)

..

There are no reasons to doubt the authenticity of the slur of FE (→EE), although it is not certain whether it was overlooked in GC or added in [A] already after the copy had been prepared.

b. 95

composition: Op. 25 No 11, Etude in A minor

..

In GC, due to the too early beginning of the octave sign, used to write the final fragment of the part of the passage in the R.H., two notes – f2 and g2 – are written one octave higher than it results from the logic of the musical course. GE1 not only did leave the mistake, but it embraced one note more (e2) with the octave sign. The correct text was introduced only in GE2 (→GE3).
