b. 35

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

..

In FCI the first 2 R.H. quavers, apart from the d1-g1 tritones, include c2 and b1 too. The first of them seems to be inaccurately written, hence it cannot be excluded that it should be interpreted as b1, which would be a counterpart of the melodic line in b. 10 and 65. It cannot be resolved on the basis of the photocopy available to us, hence we give c2, in accordance with the interpretation of that manuscript by other editors, e.g. Paul Badura-Skoda (Peters, E. P. 13178) or Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger, Peters, No. 7532).

b. 36-46

composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major

d1 & d2 after AI

d1 & d2 in FE (→GE,EE)

..

Although the notation of bars 36 and 46 does not differ between AI and FE (→GE,EE), the difference in key signature means that the 2nd quaver is a d1(2) in AI, but a d1(2) in the editions. Both versions are written correctly:

  • in AI, in both bars one can see deleted accidentals to these notes, which proves that Chopin proofread the notation there;
  • the notation of FE1 does not contain any mistakes or inaccuracies in this section (bars 33-52), and the convenience resulting from the prevailing A major key (with d notes) was most probably the main reason behind the change of key signature.

b. 36

composition: Op. 63 No. 2, Mazurka in F minor

..

In As one can see that before the 2nd quaver of the lower R.H. voice a  was initially entered. Chopin then changed it to a  and probably added a cautionary one before the a in the L.H. The accidental in the R.H. is also present in the version prepared for publication.

b. 38-54

composition: Op. 64 No 2, Waltz in C♯ minor

in As, 1. version

in As (2. version), AI & A (→FEGE,EE)

..

The ending of bar 38 has two versions in As, out of which the second – differently than in the next bars – became the final version. Similarly in bar 54, which is not written out in As.

b. 38

composition: Op. 28 No. 24, Prelude in D minor

..

In A one can see that the last g1 note was initially a quaver. Chopin then replaced it with a semiquaver and added a rest before it. See also b. 40.
