Issues : Cautionary accidentals

b. 9

composition: Op. 28 No. 10, Prelude in C♯ minor

..

In the main text we add a cautionary  before a, in spite of the fact that the crossing-out visible in A suggests that Chopin considered it superfluous.

b. 10-14

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

In bars 10 and 14 in one of the last proofreadings of FE (→GE,EE) cautionary naturals before c2 in the last triad in the bar were added. According to us, signs in these places are unjustified.

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

The cautionary  before e2 at the beginning of bar 14 was added in the proofs of FE (→GE,EE). We also complement a corresponding accidental in an analogous place in bar 10.

b. 10

composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor

d2 & d3 in A (→FEEE)

d2 & d3 in GE

..

Before the 8th note of the passage A (→FEEE) includes a  (d2). Chopin did not make any changes in any of the three preserved pupil's copies, hence we give this most certain version, as far as the sources are concerned, as the main one. GE includes a  before the 8th and 15th note of the passage (d2 and d3). A possibility of the change having been introduced by Chopin is indicated by the testimony of Mikuli (supported by RC), who in his edition of Polonaises (Kistner, Leipzig) states that at the time of Ms. Rubio learning this piece, Chopin added  next to d2 and d3. We bring up this version as a variant.
