Issues : Cautionary accidentals

b. 9

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

FE (→GE,EE) has cautionary naturals before the last semiquaver in bars 9 and 13. Despite being undeniably authentic, the signs are, according to us, unnecessary in such a regular figuration.

b. 9-13

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

The cautionary naturals before c1 in the L.H. were added in bars 9 and 13 in one of the last proofreadings of FE (→GE). They are also included in EE, except for the  overlooked in bar 13 in EE2. The manuscripts do not include any signs in these places.

We add cautionary flats next to din bar 9 and ein bar 10, as well as next to the respective notes in bars 25-26. The additions were also performed in GE1 (→GE2GE3).

b. 9

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

..

In A (→FCGE) there is a  before b in the 3rd figure of the accompaniment. The unnecessarily repeated accidental was removed in FE (→EE1) but reinstated in EE2. According to us, the crossings-out visible in A in this figure point to a possible mistake of Chopin – that superfluous  was perhaps to be placed before the previous semiquaver, lowering it from g to g.
