b. 34-38

composition: Op. 63 No. 3, Mazurka in C# minor

In GE the notation of the rhythm in bars 34 and 38 was clarified by adding rests under the e-a minims. A failed attempt at the clarification of voice leading was also undertaken in EEW – these minims were written in two-part writing, which, at best, obscured the picture, since the top voice includes 3 crotchets, while the alleged bottom one – four. In the main text we keep the original version of FE

No mark in GE

..

The missing mordent in GE is probably an oversight by the engraver, although it cannot be ruled out that the mark was added in FE1 only just in the last stage of proofreading.

a-g slur in FE, possible reading

a-g-f slur in GE

a-a-g-f slur in EEW

a-a-g slur, our alternative suggestion

..

There are several possible interpretations of the inaccurately drawn slur of FE, encompassing the first two L.H. top voice crotchets. Two of them can be seen in GE and EEW; we give a third one as an alternative suggestion. We assume that the most likely interpretation of this slur is the version adopted by GE, that is with a slur encompassing entire bar 39.

In GE1, in the version with 4 flats in the key signature, there is no  lowering G to G. It is most probably an oversight by the engraver of this edition, although it cannot be ruled out that the accidental in FE1 was added only just in the last stage of proofreading. The flat was added in GE2 (→GE3).
