EEW - First English edition

Publisher: Wessel & Co.
Date: I 1848
Plate number: (W & Co. No. 6320.)
Title: Eleventh set of Mazurkas || No. 3
Dedication: Madame la Comtesse Laure Czosnowska

EEW was based on FE2 and was not corrected by Chopin, however, it bears traces of editorial revision, e.g.:

  • the slur in bar 5 was extended to bar 6,
  • a tie was added to f in bars 55-56,
  • the middle voice was detached from the L.H. part in bars 91-94.

This edition also contains few errors and inaccuracies, e.g.:

  • the  raising d2 to d2 in bar 66 was overlooked,
  • the crotchet stem at e1 in bar 83 was omitted,
  • the slur in bar 86 was overlooked.

The copy of EEW presented in mUltimate Chopin appeared on the market in late 1851, as indicated by the content of its serial title page.* There are copies – probably earlier – with an incomplete plate number (W. & Co, No.         ).
