Slurs
b. 56
|
composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major
..
According to us, the slur ending in FE (→EEC) before the last note of the motif is inaccurate, most probably due to a wrong interpretation of the notation of [A]. The range of the short slurs encompassing particular motifs introduced in this autograph could have seemed obvious to Chopin, which probably resulted in hasty, not very careful notation. The arguments for leading the slur to the B crotchet are the slur of AI in this place and the slur of FE in a similar motif in bar 54. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , EE inaccuracies |

b. 57-60
|
composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major
..
As in bars 53-56 (see the note on bars 49-56), Chopin completed and proofread in FE2 (→EE) the R.H. slurring, returning to the initial concept of a four-bar slur. This is the version we give in the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 58
|
composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major
..
As in bars 53-56, the division of the initial slur of AI into 3 shorter ones, encompassing particular motifs, is an element of the change of the general concept of slurring of the middle section of the Mazurka. The missing slur in bar 58 in FE (→GE1,EE) is probably an oversight, corrected in GE2 (→GE3). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , GE revisions , Errors repeated in GE , Errors repeated in EE |

b. 60
|
composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major
..
As in bar 56, we consider the ending of the slur reaching only the 2nd quaver in bar 60 to be an inaccuracy, and in the main text we lead the slur to the minim, as it is in AI. The range of the slur in GE is unclear, since its ending is very thin and hardly noticeable. The slur points at the minim stem; however, we take into account what can be actually seen in a score placed at a music stand. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE |

b. 61-66
|
composition: Op. 63 No. 1, Mazurka in B major
..
Unlike in the preceding 8 bars, in this case Chopin did not introduce any changes to the slurs while proofreading FE2. Therefore, in the main text we keep the version of FE1 and the remaining sources. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations; Source & stylistic information issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , Embracing slurs |
