AI reveals an earlier version of slurring of this motif, related to a different articulation concept of the main theme. The easiest explanation for the absence of the slur in GE is an oversight by the engraver, although it is likely that the slur of FE was added only just in the last stage of proofreading FE1, hence it was absent in the proof copy that served as the basis for GE1. The missing slur in AI is probably an inadvertence – both bars stand out due to the total absence of articulation indications (staccatos, slurs). On the other hand, the absence of the slur in GE may – as in the previous bar – indicate that this slur was added in the last stage of proofreading FE1 (unless it is a mistake by the engraver). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE |
