The version of AI with an f minim was replaced by Chopin in [A] by the version of FE (→GE,EE) with a dotted rhythm. However, in FE1, as in bars 58-60, Chopin almost certainly forgot about the  raising d to d in the last quaver, as a result of which it is a d. He added this sharp while proofreading FE2 (→EE); the accidental was also independently added by the reviser of GE, and this is the version we give in the main text.

As was the case with bars 58-60 and 62, Chopin almost certainly forgot here about the  raising d to d in the last quaver, hence it is a d. In this case, however, he did not correct this mistake in FE2 (→EE), hence a  was added only by the reviser of GE. In the main text we give the version with d, confirmed by AI.

Quaver g in AI

Semiquaver in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Semiquaver g in GE3

..

The g note present in AI and in all analogous bars 4, 12 and 80 and in bars 2, 10, 70 and 78 proves that we are most probably dealing with a Terzverschreibung in FE. The b note featured in this edition does not raise any doubts in terms of harmony – B or b notes are present in chords on the 2nd beat of the bar in the majority of analogous bars – as a result of which they were repeated in almost all subsequent editions. The exception is GE3, in which – most probably on the basis of a comparison with analogous bars – g was introduced, and this is the version we adopt to the main text.
The AI quaver having been replaced by a semiquaver in the published version – see bar 70.

As in bars 7 and 15, the sources do not include sharps over the mordents. Regardless of the position of the  – see the adjacent note – there are no doubts as to the sound of the top note, hence in the main text and the versions 'edited text' of AI and GE3 we add the necessary accidentals.

a-c1 in AI, FE (→EE) & GE3

c1-e1 in GE1 (→GE2)

..

The version of GE1 (→GE2) is a remaining element of a Terzverschreibung committed by the engraver of FE1, which was corrected in the last stage of proofreading in the finished FE; however, through the proof copy serving as the basis for GE1, it found its way to this edition (in FE one can see traces of corrections of this mistake). In GE3 the correct text was most probably drawn from FE2.
