b. 40

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In A, there is no  before the top note of the L.H. octave in the middle of the bar (f) – the accidental appears only just before the f minim. Chopin's patent inaccuracy, resulting from the corrections to the L.H. part in this and the next bars, was rectified by FE (→GE,EE).

Slur over 2 crotchets in A

Slur over 2nd half of bar in FE (→GE,EE)

..

As in b. 37-39, FE (→GE,EE) misinterpreted the range of the L.H. slur of A in the 2nd half of the bar (the slur in the 1st half was reproduced correctly).

b. 41

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In the main text we add a cautionary  to f1. Chopin wrote in this bar a cautionary  to F in the middle of the bar, which was supplemented by FE (→GE,EE), in which an accidental was added to f. We also include those accidentals in the main text.
