b. 37

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Chord with added f in GE

d-g-b-d chord in FE (→EE)

..

The chord of GE containing f may be the initial version, changed probably in the basis for FE, or a mistake in the interpretation of [A] committed by the engraver of GE1.

b. 38

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

No markings in sources

..

On the 3rd beat of the bar in the main text we suggest supplementing the Chopinesque pedalling drawn from GE. There is no reason why the pedal markings in this bar should differ from the ones in the preceding bar, hence the missing markings seem to be an oversight of Chopin (Cf. also bar 64). Similarly in analogous bar 271.

b. 40

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

f2-f3 in GE, FE & EE2 (→EE3)

f2-f3 in EE1

The EE1 version is most probably an oversight by the engraver. Nothing points to its authenticity.

b. 41

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

In FE (→EE1) there is no  restoring g2 in the last octave in the bar. The mistake was corrected in EE2 (→EE3) by adding sharps next to both notes of that octave; the same notation can be found in GE. In the main text we include only the necessary  next to g2. Likewise in b. 67.

b. 41

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

No accidental (d) in GE & FE1

 (d) in FE2 & EE

..

According to us, although Chopin would often use dominant chords with a lowered fifth, the missing raising d to d here is most probably an oversight. Chopin corrected it in FE1, but only the second time this place appears, i.e. in b. 67. Therefore, in the discussed bar we follow the most probably correctly supplemented version of FE2 and EE.
