CGS - Copy by George Sand
Date: | (VIII 1839-1854) |
Title: | [Prélude] |
Dedication: | None |
Copy made by George Sand (photocopy in: K. Kobylańska, Rękopisy utworów Chopina, Cracow 1977), the second of six Preludes copied by the novelist in a comprehensive album containing pieces by various composers, written by different persons. CGS was probably prepared on the basis of FE2, which is supported by the following arguments:
- similar division of the text into lines – differences do not appear until the 4th line, in which FE fitted in 6 bars, which was not feasible in the copy;
- high compliance between the text of both sources – the differences can be easily explained by oversights (above all, the majority of the hairpins are missing) or inaccuracies (the pedal markings and hairpins in b. 13-14);
- characteristic coincidences (in terms of text) in the remaining Preludes copied by George Sand, e.g. in the Prelude in E no. 9.
Dating – see the Prelude in A minor no. 2.
