GE1 is based on FC, Chopin took no part in its preparation. In the entire Op. 28 GE1 contains many adjustments and errors – see Prelude in C no. 1. There are copies of GE1 which have differing covers, and the edition was also published in a version of 4 fascicules containing 6 preludes each.
The revisions introduced into the Prelude in B minor include:
- added accidentals, overlooked in A (→FC) – except those in b. 26-27,
- added
at the beginning of the piece,
- added cautionary accidentals, e.g. a
before a
2 in b. 17,
- changed range of dynamic hairpins, generally for them to fill entire bars or semiquaver groups, e.g. in b. 27-28,
- added slur over the L.H. semiquavers in b. 32-33.
Major defects include:
- changed order between the 2nd and 3rd semiquavers in b. 2,
- a g
-g
1 octave instead of a chord in b. 24,
- fingering digit printed over a wrong note in b. 22,
- wrong arrangement of the sempre più animato - - - indication with dashes until b. 40 as sempre - - più - - animato in b. 34-36.
