GE1 is based on FC, Chopin took no part in its preparation. In the entire Op. 28 GE1 contains many adjustments and errors – see Prelude in no. 1. There are copies of GE1 which have differing covers, and the edition was also published in a version of 4 fascicules containing 6 preludes each.

The revisions introduced into the Prelude in B minor include:

  • added accidentals, overlooked in A (→FC) – except those in b. 26-27,
  • added  at the beginning of the piece,
  • added cautionary accidentals, e.g. a  before a2 in b. 17,
  • changed range of dynamic hairpins, generally for them to fill entire bars or semiquaver groups, e.g. in b. 27-28,
  • added slur over the L.H. semiquavers in b. 32-33.

Major defects include:

  • changed order between the 2nd and 3rd semiquavers in b. 2,
  • g-g1 octave instead of a chord in b. 24,
  • fingering digit printed over a wrong note in b. 22,
  • wrong arrangement of the sempre più animato - - - indication with dashes until b. 40 as sempre - - più - - animato in b. 34-36.
