First French edition based on A, in which the whole cycle of Preludes was divided in two books, 12 pieces each. Chopin did not participate in its preparation – proofreading of FE1, which included supplemented accidentals and pedalling, was conducted by Julian Fontana. For a general description of FE1 in the entire Op. 28 – see Prelude in C no. 1.
In the Prelude in B minor FE1 repeated all inaccuracies of A concerning accidentals. However, cautionary accidentals were added, e.g. a before a2 in b. 17, as well as a mark in b. 36.
In addition, new mistake and inaccuracies were committed, e.g.:
- the authentic time signature marking was replaced with ;
- the following were omitted: cresc. in b. 10-14, fingerings in b. 22-23 and 41, L.H. slur in b. 29-30 and 32, the majority of the dashes marking the range of the cresc. in b. 42-45;
- the 5th semiquaver in b. 43 was printed as d1 instead of b.
