Slurs

b. 19-20

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt II

No slurs in FE (→GE1GE2)

Slur in EE & GE3

..

As has already been indicated in bar 17, we consider the missing slurs to be Chopin's oversight. The need for and the range of the slur in the 2nd half of bar 19 seem to be obvious (cf. identical figures in bar 16 and 21); they were added already in EE and GE3. In turn, one could imagine the first two quavers in bar 20 being performed with another articulation – see e.g. similar bar 61; however, the slur encompassing the last 6 quavers in bar 20 rather excludes such a varied articulation. The missing pedal mark on the 1st beat in bar 20 may also be considered an argument for performing the bass note legato.

b. 37

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt II

In FE, there are visible traces of a correction performed to the slur that originally did not encompass the last two semiquaver triplets.

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt II

No slurs in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Nothing indicates a change of the performance manner of typical quaver accompaniment figures in this bar. Therefore, we consider the missing slurs to be an oversight and suggest adding them. Identical slurs were added in GE3.

b. 41

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt II

Slur in FE (→GE1GE2)

Slur in EE & GE3

..

The slur of FE (→GE1GE2) is most probably a mistake, hence in the main text we include a correction introduced in EE and GE3. We may be dealing here with a peculiar mark reversal – the engraver led the slur from the 1st semiquaver of the triplet to the left instead of to the right (cf. a similar mistake in the Concerto in F minor, op. 21, the 3rd mov., bars 172-173).

b. 47

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt II

3 slurs in FE

2 slurs in GE1 (→GE2)

2 slurs in EE

1 slur in GE3

..

In the main text, we give the complete slurring of FE. The versions of EE and GE1 (→GE2) are most probably a result of the engravers' mistakes. A single slur in GE3 is probably modelled after the slurring of an analogous phrase in bars 95-96.
