The version of EE must be erroneous – such 'generalisation' of schemes of figurations, particularly those containing recurrent elements, is a relatively frequent mistake of engravers – cf. e.g. bar 594. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in EE |

In FE (→GE1→GE2, →EE1→EE2), there is no accidental before the penultimate semiquaver. The undoubtedly necessary was added only just in GE3 and EE3. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , GE revisions , Omission of current key accidentals , Errors repeated in GE , Errors repeated in EE |

The version of EE is almost certainly erroneous – the presence of a and a2 proves that from that moment on, Chopin heard again the E minor key and not F major. Interestingly, the reviser of EE did not react in the previous bar, in which he should have added the overlooked lowering f2 to f2. A cautionary before that note was added in GE3. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions |

The position of the accent raises doubts – a combination of a vertical and long accent is rather uncommon in Chopin's output. Therefore, in the main text we assign the accent to the L.H., assuming that FE misinterpreted the position of the mark (both in FE and [A] the distance between the staves was small, hence the marks placed between them would sometimes be ambiguous). The missing accidental before the 4th semiquaver in FE (→GE1→GE2) must be an oversight – in such figures, enveloping the initial note like a grupetto (very frequent in Chopin's output), two bottommost notes constitute an interval of a minor or major second, but not augmented. We add a , which is most likely in this place (cf. e.g. bar 220). The accidental was added already in EE and GE3. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , GE revisions |
