Slurs

b. 625-626

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Continuous slur in FE (→EE)

2 slurs in GE

..

The division of the slur in GE results from an erroneous interpretation of the slightly inaccurate notation of FE – the slur in bar 625, the last one in a line of text, suggests continuation with its shape but not range. However, the slur in bar 626 leaves no doubts that it is a continuous slur.

b. 630-640

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slurs in FE

Slurs in GE & EE

..

In bar 630, 635, 638 and 640 in FE, there are no little slurs combining the grace notes with the quaver that ends the motif. A comparison with the remaining similar bars of this 24-bar section points to oversights of the engraver of FE or of Chopin himself. In the main text, we add the overlooked little slurs like it was performed in GE and EE

b. 636-637

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slurs in FE (→EE)

Slurs in GE

..

The slurs of FE (→EE) are probably inaccurate, since it is difficult to find a reason that would justify their different range – cf. bars 621-629 and the remaining ones in this fragment. However, it has to be said that if it were not for the ratio of the number of one type of the slurs to the other, it would be the slurs of FE, encompassing the entire motifs, that could be considered to be more accurate.

b. 641-644

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Four-bar slur in FE (→EE)

Slur in bars 643-644 in GE1 (→GE2)

Two-bar slurs in GE3

..

The visibly incomplete slurring of GE1 (→GE2) probably reflects one of the original versions of the slurs in FE, changed then in the last phase of proofreading. The slur added in GE3 constitutes a natural addition, in particular in the face of the authentic slurring of six previous bars.

b. 646

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In FE, one can see a trace of the original, shorter slur that encompassed only the last group of semiquavers.
