Four-bar slur in FE (→EE)

Slur in bars 643-644 in GE1 (→GE2)

Two-bar slurs in GE3

The shorter slur of GE1 (→GE2) probably means that the four-bar slur of FE was extended in the last phase of proofreading. However, the lack of visible traces of changes in FE makes it difficult to determine the original state of slurring in that edition. According to us, two possibilities are most likely – a slur only in bars 643-644 (like in GE) or a slur in bars 642-644 (from the beginning of the line), which the engraver of GE shortened by analogy with the previous ones. The visibly incomplete slurring of GE1 (→GE2) was completed in GE3 in the simplest manner; at the same time, the introduced addition is a logical consequence of the authentic slurring of six previous bars.
