b. 99

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slur in Atut (→FEEE,GE1GE2)

Wedge & slur in GE3

..

The beginning of the slur in Atut may raise doubts. In the main text, we adopt the interpretation of FE (→EE,GE1GE2), emphasising the phrasing and not the piano grip. In GE3, the beginning of the slur was moved over the 1st semiquaver and a wedge was added over the 1st quaver of the bar.

End of slur in Atut (literal reading→FEGE,EE)

End of slur in Atut, contextual interpretation

..

The range of the slur in Atut is unclear – in bar 103, in a new line of text, there is no ending of the slur that suggests a continuation in the previous bar. According to us, the explanation is to be looked for at the repetition of this phrase in bars 113-115, written in one line of text – in that place, the slur is clearly led to the beginning of bar 115.

Slur in Atut (contextual interpretation) & GE

..

When interpreted literally, the slur of Atut begins from the 2nd third in bar 107, which was repeated in FE (→EE). In turn, in GE, the beginning of the slur was moved to the beginning of the bar. The fact of beginning the slur from the 1st third, obvious from the point of view of slurring, may also be, to a certain extent, graphically justified – the slurs in bars 104 and 105, unquestionable due to the context, also begin far from the notes they apply to.

b. 110-111

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slur in Atut, literal reading

Slur in Atut (possible interpretation→FEGE,EE)

..

When interpreted literally, the ending of the slur in Atut does not go beyond bar 110, which was considered an inaccuracy in FE (→GE,EE). In the main text, we include the literal interpretation, since the beginning of bar 111 is the overlap between two phrases, whereas the momentum with which the new phrase enters undoubtedly overshadows the delicate ending of the previous one.

Slur to a in Atut, contextual interpretation

..

The range of the slur of Atut is unclear – in bar 118 (at the end of the line), the slur clearly suggests that it should be continued, which is, however, not the case in bar 119.
