b. 68-72

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In Atut (→FE), the minims in bars 68 and 72 are devoid of extending dots, which, in both cases, must be considered a mistake. Dots were added in GE and EE.

B tied in Atut

B repeated in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The missing tie of is probably an oversight of the engraver of FE (→GE,EE). It cannot be excluded that the engraver did not understand the meaning of the curved line of Atut, since Chopin, as was his custom, wrote only a short curved line through the bar line, hence it is not evident that its left-hand ending is supposed to reach the minim.

Crotchet B1-B in Atut

Crotchet B1 in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Grace note B1 in GE3

..

In the main text, we keep the notation of Atut, since the notation of FE (→EE,GE1GE2), musically equal, probably originated by chance. The version with grace note is one of the elements of the complex revision of GE3, which, moreover, included added fingering and pedalling.

B repeated in Atut (contextual interpretation→FEGE)

B tied in Atut (possible interpretation) & EE

..

The issue of sustaining the minim is unclear. Bar 77 is the last one on a page in Atut and it is devoid of a tie. However, on a new page, in bar 78, there is an ending of such a tie. Since Chopin did not write a respective tie in an analogous situation in bars 81-82, we assume, in accordance with FE (→GE), that the ending of the tie was written in bar 78 by mistake. In this situation, the tie in EE added most probably by Fontana, modelled after the solo part (bars 238-239 and 242-243), is to be considered a variant of uncertain authenticity. See also bars 81-82.
