Slurs

b. 444-446

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No L.H. slur in FE

Slur to bar 446 in GE1 (→GE2) & EE

Shorter slur in GE3

..

After slurs in the two previous phrases, the missing slur in the L.H. must be considered an inaccuracy of notation (a similar situation occurs in bars 446-448). Both in GE1 (→GE2) and EE, the slur was added on the basis of the previous phrase; in turn, GE3 adopted a slur compliant with the source version of the slur in the R.H. (until the end of bar 445).

b. 445-446

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slur to end of bar 445 in FE (→GE)

Slur to bar 446 in EE

..

In the main text, we suggest a slur to the beginning of bar 446 due to the consistent slurring of the analogous phrases in bars 416-424. A similar change was introduced already in EE (in a simplified, inaccurate manner, i.e. the ending of the slur was added in bar 446, which opens a new line, leaving the slur reaching the last semiquaver in bar 445 unchanged).

b. 446-447

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

EE overlooked the slur in the R.H., which must be a mistake.

b. 446-448

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slur in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Slur in GE3, in bars 446-447

Slur to bar 448 suggested by the editors

..

As in the case of the previous phrase, we consider the missing slur in the L.H. to be an inaccuracy of notation and add a slur modelled after the authentic slur in bars 442-444. A slur added in GE3 to the source slur in bars 440-442.

b. 447-448

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

2 slurs in FE, literal reading

Continuous slur in FE, possible interpretation (→GE)

Slur in bar 448 in EE

..

The inaccurate notation of FE does not clearly reveal whether it is a new slur that begins in bar 448 or whether it is a continuation of the previous one. Both interpretations may be considered justified, both from the source (graphic) and musical points of view. In the main text, we adopt separated slurs due to a four-note section beginning in bar 448. The missing slur in EE in bars 446-447 must be a mistake.
