Slurs

b. 309-310

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

2 slurs in FE (→EE)

1 slur in GE

..

In the main text we adopt the change introduced in GE. While proofreading FE in similar places (bars 291-294 and 307-308), Chopin replaced shorter slurs with one two-bar slur three times; therefore, it is highly likely that leaving this place without correction was either an oversight (of Chopin or the engraver) or an acceptance of a version that was not ideal, but a version that did not significantly distort the phrasing.

b. 311-312

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slur in FE

Slur in GE1 (→GE2)

Slurs in EE

Slurs in GE3

Slurs suggested by the editors

..

The missing slur in the first half of the bar is probably an oversight, either of the engraver of FE or Chopin, cf. analogous bar 295. However, the slur added in EE is almost certainly arbitrary, whereas the one in GE3 – modelled after the most probably inaccurate slur in the aforementioned bar 295. In the main text, we suggest adding a slur in the entire first half of the bar, just like in bar 295.
The second slur in the discussed bar, written too early, is an inaccuracy of GE

b. 313

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In EE, the motivic slur of c2-b1, present in FE (→GE), was replaced with a tie to cfrom the previous bar, probably by analogy with bars 296-297.

b. 314

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slur in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Slur in GE3

Same slur suggested by the editors

..

In the main text, we suggest adding a slur in the L.H. after similar bar 298. Such a slur was added already in GE3.

b. 315-316

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slurs in FE (→GE,EE)

Slurs written into FED

..

In the main text, we include the slurs added in FED, running from the 2nd semiquaver to the octave on the 2nd beat of the bar. According to us, it specifies the notation and harmonises with the printed notation – cf. the slurs in the L.H. in these bars and the slur in the R.H. in bar 317.
