In A, the beginning of the slur falls over the first small quaver, but with its detachment it suggests a broader sweep of the pen and, consequently, a wider reach. The slur end quite clearly passes the group of grace notes and points to the first regular-size semiquaver, c2. Such an interpretation finds confirmation in the slurring of the analogous figure in bar 32.
