A more probable interpretation of the slur in A

A less probable interpretation of A (→GEFEEE)

We discuss the difficulties with the interpretation of slurs in A in its characteristics. The musically obvious situations in bars  5-6 and 10-11 illustrate Chopin's tendency to imprecisely finish slurs on their right-hand side (this is visible in many slurs in that autograph); the same applies to both slurs in the left hand in bar 1. It is also worth noting that Chopin's handwriting at the beginning of the Nocturne is clearly left-slanted.

Cf. bar 14.
