b. 74-77

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

Pedalling of bars 74-77 in A

 added in GE1

 added in FE

 added in EE

 moved in #FE2

..

We give the pedalling of A (a single pedal depression from bar 74 to the end). Subsequent supplementations in GE1, FE and EE and the change in GE2 are most probably made by reviewers. FE has an ad-hoc correction of the GE1 version, as that version was contrary to Chopin's intentions.

A diminuendo indication in A

GE (→FE)

The editors' suggestion

..

This dynamic indication was written in A as dimin and completed with a line that delimited the extent of its application. In GE (→FEEE) that line was simply treated as an abbreviated word ending. Our proposal combines all the visually important aspects of notation found in the sources.

In EE both indications in this bar were given as abbreviations.

b. 75

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

..

Erasures visible in A over the R.H. part seem to confirm that Chopin removed the earlier markings, including staccato dots over each one of the sixths and two half-bar slurs.

Slurs in  A (→GE1)

EE and GE2

..

In the main text we give two motivic slurs visible in A (→GE1): over the R.H. and under the L.H. In FE, the L.H. slur was moved to the note head side, thus becoming a tie. In the editors' opinion this is due to the engraver's mannerism, not the result of Chopin's correction. In EE and GE2 two more slurs were arbitrarily added, one for each hand, and as a result a flat is also sustained in those two editions.
