The slur given in A

The slur in GE (→FEEE)

The extent of the slur in A seems clear here, yet it was interpreted differently in GE (→FEEE).

b. 10-11

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

GE: the tie sustaining f2 from bar 9 is not completed.

FE (→EE): the slur begins earlier.

..

The slurs and ties of A, unambiguous in their meaning and extent, became somewhat distorted in the editions. In GE, due to the fact that bar 10 marked the beginning of a new line of text, the tie sustaining f2 had to be divided into two parts; although the part from bar 10 was accidentally omitted, the meaning of the curved lines printed in bars 9-10 remained unchanged and easy to guess. In FE (→EE), the earlier commenced slur seems to be a continuation of the tie from bar 9, which definitely suggests a change of meaning.

and espressivo in A

Our suggestion based on A

..

The hairpins in A have the upper arm much longer than the lower one, yet the beginning of that sign is clearly linked with the second quaver of the bar. In GE the hairpins were matched to the beam, which was reproduced (with slight inaccuracies) in FE and EE.

We place the indication espressivo above the upper staff, not to interfere with  .
