In the main text we suggest adding an accent at the beginning of this bar. The accent is present in all three repetitions of this bar (in b. 228, 244 and 248), and, according to us, it is the composer's inadvertence or a mistake of the engraver of FE that are the most likely reasons for the absence of an accent in the discussed bar. category imprint: Editorial revisions |

EE1 is lacking in the cautionary flats before a1 in the L.H. crotchet chord and before b1, the 4th R.H. semiquaver. The accidentals were added in the penultimate stage of proofreading of FE (→GE) as well as in EE2. In the main text we also add a before a1, the 2nd R.H. semiquaver. FE are lacking in the lowering c2 to c2. This patent inaccuracy was corrected in GE and EE. There is a similar situation in b. 241 and 245, which suggests that a corresponding present in FE in this place the first time (b. 221) could have been added in a hasty process of proofreading, since b. 241-260 were probably marked in [A] in an abridged manner. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , Inaccuracies in FE , GE revisions |

Just like in b. 223, the version of EE1 is probably Chopin's mistake adopted from a proof copy of FE. The natural raising a1 to a1 was added in the last stage of proofreading of FE (→GE). The correction was also introduced in EE2. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Omission of current key accidentals , Authentic corrections of FE , Last key signature sign |
