Issues : Omission of current key accidentals

b. 310

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

The natural raising a to is written in A with pencil. The sign clearly differs from both typical Chopinesque naturals and the signs added in bar 314 (as well as from the  written with pencil in the part of the clarinet I in Morch in this place). Moreover, a denser text in GE1 suggests that in this edition a corresponding sign was added only in the proofreading. Therefore, it may be one of the later, foreign additions – cf. bar 256.

b. 313-314

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

In A there is no  raising d1 to don the 4th quaver in bar 313, whereas the signs in bar 314 were added with pencil. In spite of the obvious accuracy of these additions, their authenticity is not certain, since other additions made with pencil in A were added rather by a foreign hand – cf. bar 256 and 310. All sources include a  raising dto din the last quaver in bar 313. We omit this sign in the main text, since after the oversight on the 4th quaver had been corrected, it became superfluous.

b. 363-364

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

Four necessary flats lowering g to g (in different octaves) are missing in A: Chopin wrote signs only at the beginning of the bars, in the L.H. in bar 363 and in the R.H. in bar 364. In GE1 (→FE1EE1EE2) a  was added before the bass G in bar 365, but it is only GE2 and EE3 that include the fully correct notation.

b. 404

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

d2 in chord in A & GE2

No d2 in chord in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

The version of GE1 (→FEEE) is almost certainly erroneous – breaking the octave line of the topmost voice is totally unjustified in this case. Therefore, in the main text we preserve the version of A. This evaluation remains unchanged in the face of the addition of a , overlooked by Chopin, raising d3 to din GE1, since it was most probably performed by the reviser (in A Chopin also overlooked the  raising d2 to d2).

b. 422-423

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

e3 in A (literal reading→GE1FE1)

e3 in A (contextual interpretation), FE2 (→EE) & GE2

..

When interpreted literally, the version of A (→GE1FE1) is certainly erroneous, although both bars are written in the same way for the second time (bars 462-463). It is proved by the B-g-d1-fchord (and not -e1) in the orchestra, played from the beginning of bar 422, and above all by the flats lowering e3 to e3, which were added in both bars in the proofreading of FE2 (→EE), almost certainly by Chopin. Flats were added also in GE2.
